Dollar Index API and DXY formula reconstruction
How do I query DXY reconstruction?
One authenticated GET returns the latest value with its timestamp and source. Swap the language tab for your stack.
$ curl https://api.exchangerate.dev/v1/indices/dxy-reconstructed \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $API_KEY"
# → value, data_updated_at, sourceconst r = await fetch("https://api.exchangerate.dev/v1/indices/dxy-reconstructed", {
headers: { Authorization: `Bearer ${API_KEY}` }
}).then(res => res.json())
console.log(r.value, r.data_updated_at, r.source)r = requests.get(
"https://api.exchangerate.dev/v1/indices/dxy-reconstructed",
headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {API_KEY}"},
).json()
print(r["value"], r["data_updated_at"], r["source"])Related reading
Methodology
This endpoint uses EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, and CHF with the published basket weights and formula constant. Because exchangerate.dev stores every component as foreign currency units per USD, the implementation uses the algebraically equivalent positive exponents in that orientation.
The result is an independent reconstruction. It is not official ICE data, an ICE settlement value, or a licensed DXY feed. Small differences from a displayed market index can result from observation timing, source methodology, rounding, and market conventions.
Use it when you need a transparent six-currency dollar basket that can be reproduced from its inputs. The response includes each constituent rate, weight, timestamp, and log contribution.
A point is emitted only when every constituent is present. Intraday timestamps must be within 30 seconds; missing baskets remain gaps and weights are never redistributed.
